Joaquim Alexandre Ribeiro

Joaquim Alexandre Ribeiro, born in 1941, is a neuropharmacologist. In 1966 got a MD at the Facuty of Medicine University of Lisboa (FMUL), in 1982 a PhD at the University of Edinburgh. Between 1970-97 was Investigator at Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência, invited Professor of ICBAS, University of Porto. In 1997 he became full Professor at FMUL. Is member of editorial board of several scientific journals, member of Real Academia Nacional de Farmacia (Espanha) and Academia Portuguesa de Medicina. Since 2011 is Emeritus Professor of FMUL. Besides neuropharmacology, he has also a particular interest on neuroethics and coordinates this curricular unit of the PhD Programme in Neurosciences at FMUL.

Nicolas Lori
(ICVS)

Obtained his degree in physics at the University of Coimbra in 1993, completed his PhD in physics at the University of Washington in St. Louis in 2001 on the topic of imaging of the human brain using diffusion IRM, and is presently finishing his PhD in Computer Science in the MAPi program (U. Minho + U. Aveiro + U. Porto). He also had a Fulbright Scholarship between 1995 and 2000. He has over 2600 citations, and has published in neuroscience, Physics, electrical engineering, philosophy and other areas. He is presently a researcher at ICVS and Centre Algoritmi, both at the University of Minho.

Andrés Richart

Andrés Richart studied a Graduate Degree in Philosophy in University of Valencia, and an Interuniversitary Master’s Degree on Ethics and Democracy in University of Valencia and University Jaume I of Castellón. Currently he is doing a PHD in Ethics and Democracy and he is a researcher and lecturer in training, supported by a FPU contract-fellowship from the Spanish Government, in Valencia University. His main research area is Neuroethics, and the main topics he researches are phylogeny and ontogeny of social and moral behavior, social and moral cognition, social and moral neuroscience, moral neuroeducation, the relation between moral philosophy, science and reductionism, and philosophy of science. Some secondary topics are bioethics, human enhancement, new technologies and bio-technologies, animal ethics, human development, political philosophy. So his research is interdisciplinar, some of his interest areas are neuroethics, ethics, philosophy, neuroscience, psychology, human evolution, primatology, sociobiology, biology, genetics, medicine, education.

Mattia Bergomi
(Fundação Champalimaud)

Mattia Bergomi is currently a researcher in the Collective Behavior Lab at the Champalimaud Foundation. His aim is to understand how information can be organised and processed in high-dimensional spaces, to produce informative, tractable representations.
In 2011, he obtained his BA and MA in Mathematics at the University of Milano-Biccoca, with a thesis in Algebraic Topology.
He obtained his PhD in Computer Science with specialisation in Mathematics in 2015 at the Institute for Research and Coordination in Acoustics/Music, Université Pierre et Marie Curie in Paris and a PhD in Computer Science at the Università di Milano.
In 2015, he founded NamiLab, a startup that uses artificial intelligence and topological data analysis to study creative processes and forecast complex systems.
In 2016, he joined the Collective Behaviour lab at the Chamapalimaud foundation, where he uses artificial intelligence to both acquire and process behavioural data in an automated and organised manner.  In collaboration with Prof. Massimo Ferri (Università di Bologna), he studies novel techniques to represent the flux of key information in complex networks.

Alexandre Castro Caldas

Professor Castro-Caldas is currently Director of the Institute of Health Sciences of Portuguese Catholic University and was Full Professor of Neurology at the University of Lisbon and Head of the Department of Clinical Neurosciences of the Hospital de Santa Maria, in Lisbon, Portugal. He obtained his M.D. and his Ph.D. from the University of Lisbon - School of Medicine, where he started his career in 1974. He has been responsible for the Language Research Laboratory until 1998 and organized the Centre for Neurosciences of Lisbon in 1990. He was President of the International Neuropsychological Society (2000-2001).
